Is there a way of reducing the severity of allergy symptoms?
|
 |
|
The best way to alleviate or reduce the severity of your allergy symptoms is to identify and avoid whatever substance you are allergic to. If for instance, you experience allergy symptoms such as wheezing, itchiness, a runny nose etc. after eating certain foods, cut these foods out of your diet.
Symptoms of allergies are very similar to most upper respiratory disorders and may be confused. See your otolaryngologist for proper diagnosis and treatment options available. You can alternatively take certain measures that may help reduce or avoid possible allergens that trigger allergic reactions.
Measures to reduce the severity of allergies
|
 |
|
- The first step is to know what substances you are allergic and to avoid them as much as possible.
- In the case of food allergies, read the ingredients carefully and avoid all foods that contain whatever foods you're allergic to. When you eat out, ask what ingredients were/are used to prepare the meal.
- In case of indoor allergens such as mold, dust mites, animal dander etc. try to use air filters to moisten the air in your home.
- Vacuum all areas of your house and keep it well ventilated.
- If you're allergic to inhalants, during spring and fall try to stay indoors to avoid high pollen exposure.
- Have someone mow your lawn
- Buy allergy proof beddings and wash them frequently in hot water
- Wash your doorknobs regularly
- Don't allow pets in your bedroom
- Wash your hands with water and soap regularly after touching anything that may have germs
- Vacuum the house regularly to decrease the amount of indoor dust and other inhalants
- Keep your pets clean by bathing them more regularly. Wear a mask and protective gloves when you do this.
- Stay away from places where molds grow (humid, moist, damp areas in the house or outdoors)
- Wear a medic alert bracelet or card with allergy information.
