Clear Mucus

The body produces around a quart of nasal mucus each and every day under normal conditions. Nasal mucus, though hard to believe for some, is in essence beneficial for our bodies as it not only provides moisture to the membrane linings but also acts as a barrier keeping moisture in. Another important function of nasal mucus is that it is one of our basic defense mechanisms against airborne particles that if allowed to remain stuck to the mucus linings, will cause an irritation, swelling and inflammation of the linings.
Mucus is a gel-like liquid, which under normal conditions is clear. It is made up of mucin which is a protein essential for fighting off infections. Mucus in the nasal passages is produced by goblet cells which are quite proficient in their functioning however when overstimulated may make one consciously aware of too much mucus being produced.
Normal clear nasal mucus usually means ones nasal passages are functioning normally and no treatment measure should be sought.
Only when normal clear nasal mucus begins to increase in volume should one stop and take note as large amounts of clear nasal mucus can cause congestion and post nasal drip
(Post Nasal Drip is the backward flow of nasal mucus down the throat).
Excessive amounts of clear nasal mucus may be a result of:
- Hayfever
- Allergic Rhinitis (allergies)
- The start of a cold or flu
It is only when the body is infected by a virus, bacteria or comes into contact with other pollutants such as cigarette smoke, alcohol or even certain foods that a change in nasal mucus may occur. Common color changes that nasal mucus may go through and the meanings behind these colors can be found in the below links:

Clear nasal mucus by itself is normal however when excessive volumes of nasal mucus is produced, certain treatments may be needed to help bring mucus production back to within normal levels thereby preventing further complications.
SinusWars1 - Recommended for excess nasal mucus caused by Allergies and Hayfever.
SinusWars1 assists in the treatment of allergies thanks to its natural anti-inflammatory properties which work to decrease sensitivity of the body to non-harmful stimulants. This regulatory property helps ensure histamine production and secretion is kept within normal levels, decreasing the severity of an allergy attack and reducing the amount of nasal mucus produced in response to the allergy. By decreasing sensitivity levels, SinusWars1 is able to lessen the occurrence of future allergy attacks.
SinusWars10 – This is also a suitable Homeopathic Remedy for the treatment of Allergies and Hayfever and comes in an easy to use Nasal Spray Bottle.
The addition of Pepper (capsicum) to the SinusWars10 Nasal Spray makes it suitable for use almost anywhere with the liquid allowing for instant results.
The SinusWars10 Nasal Spray is however not recommended for children under the age of 6.
SinusWars2 – is ideal in treating excessive post nasal drip (mucus running down the back of the throat).
SinusWars2 goes to work on over-stimulated goblet cells (cells responsible for mucus production). Decreasing stimulus on these cells helps ensure nasal mucus production is within the normal daily level of around one quart per day. A decrease in post nasal drip also helps alleviate throat irritations, frequent coughing, hawking up of nasal mucus and stomach unease due to large amounts of nasal mucus entering the stomach.
SinusWars14 - is suitable for the treatment of non-allergic rhinitis.
Non-allergic rhinitis is a condition in which the nose constantly produces nasal mucus however not in response to an allergy. Rhinitis symptoms are also different to many other “excess nasal mucus” conditions in that the mucus drips from the nares of the nose as well as post nasally.
The SinusWars14, Sinu-Nurse Remedy helps alleviate excess mucus production together with treating the start of an acute sinus infection.
