Foods and drinks that may cause headaches
|
 |
|
There are several foods and drinks that may predispose you to headaches if eaten regularly or repeatedly. These include:
Foods
Some scientists regard migraine headaches as an allergic reaction, because it may also be triggered by certain foods. The following are certain foods that may trigger headaches, especially migraine:
- Cheese
- Chocolate
- Chicken liver
- Herring
- Soybeans
- Nuts
- Yeast (especially in homemade bread)
- Dried fruits (raisins)
- Mushrooms
- Salty foods
- Red plums
- Ripe avocados and bananas
Drinks
- Alcoholic drinks
Any form of liquor including red wine, beer, brandy etc. may trigger headaches. Red wine and beer are among the most common causes of migraines. If your liver is overloaded with toxic substances such as alcohol, caffeine and other toxins, it may lead to abnormal blood flow in the neck and head nerves and gives you a headache.
- Caffeinated drinks
Caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, soda and other soft drinks may also predispose you to headaches. Caffeine is a stimulant found in the above mentioned drinks and it works on the central nervous system and makes you more alert. On the other hand, it may also constrict your blood vessels, causing pain and headaches.
