What is Upper Airway Cough Syndrome?

Upper Airway Cough Syndrome (UACS) is characterized by cough that is associated with upper airway conditions. UACS includes conditions that cause cough by affecting the nose, sinuses, or throat. They stimulate cough nerve endings by a combination of post nasal drip, irritation or inflammation of the tissues. Upper respiratory tract infection, allergies, and exposure to environmental irritants such as dusts and gases, are usual causes of UACS.
