What is Upper Airway Cough Syndrome?
Upper Airway Cough Syndrome (UACS) is characterized by cough that is associated with upper airway conditions. UACS includes conditions that cause cough by affecting the nose, sinuses, or throat. They stimulate cough nerve endings by a combination of post nasal drip, irritation or inflammation of the tissues. Upper respiratory tract infection, allergies, and exposure to environmental irritants such as dusts and gases, are usual causes of UACS. This syndrome refers to numerous rhinosinus conditions such as mouth breathing; sleep apnea and snoring that are related to cough.
Prevalence
In the USA, UACS is the most common cause of chronic cough in non-smoking adults and prevalent amongst 40% of the American population.
Causes of Upper Airways Cough Syndrome (UACS)
UACS is caused by the excessive mucus produced by the nasal mucosa. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or the back of the nose. This is caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or a swallowing disorder. Seasonal and persistent allergies are also frequent causes of UACS.
Symptoms of Upper Airways Cough Syndrome (UACS)
The following are common symptoms found in patients with UACS. Symptoms may vary depending on patient’s medical history.
- Cough
- Nasal discharge
- Draining sensation in the throat
- Throat clearing
- Posterior pharynx drainage or mucus
- Frequent spitting
- Congested nasal and sinus passages
- Oropharyngeal mucosa with cobblestone appearance
- Bad breath
- Wheezing
- Constant attempt to clear nasal passage
- Difficulty breathing
- Chronic sore throat
Treatment of Upper Airways Cough Syndrome (UACS)
Health Professions may manage UACS by treating the specific cause (allergies and sinusitis) that may result in the syndrome. Treatment may include allergy medication, antibiotics or nasal irrigation. In some situations, acid control medication is given to patients.
SinusWars 2 is 100% natural and able to decrease the amount of excess mucous that accumulates at the back of the throat which decreases frequencies of nasal discharge, constant throat clearing and congested nasal and sinus passages.
