Nasal Polyps Treatment
|
 |
|
Polyps form in the nasal cavity because of a variety of reasons. In some cases, chronic allergic rhinitis is to blame, although chronic sinusitis and even cystic fibrosis can lead to polyps. The goal behind treatment of nasal polyps is to reduce or eliminate them entirely. Unfortunately, while most people with polyps experience allergies, research indicates that management of allergies does not reduce or eliminate polyps. With that said, there are basically two types of treatment, medicine and surgery. While both are offered, it is generally preferred that surgery be a last resort.

- Corticosteroids
Most often, corticosteroids are considered the most effective way to treat polyps. They are generally available in nasal sprays as well as oral and Injectable doses. Nasal corticosteroids are simply sprays that your doctor may recommend for reducing inflammation. Some examples include Flonase, Rhinocort, and Nasonex. Oral corticosteroids have the best effectiveness rate of the three types and are typically prescribed if the nasal variety is not successful. However, there are some pretty serious side effects with oral corticosteroids and they are likely used only for a short time. In fact, patients can expect to only be given oral corticosteroids 3 or 4 times a year. Finally, injections offer another alternative, but are used less frequently and only if a combination of nasal spray and oral corticosteroids is ineffective.
- Antibiotics
Sometimes infection is a consequence of nasal polyps, in which case your doctor may prescribe antibiotics. Consider discussing the benefits as well as possible disadvantages as you may not want to expose yourself to antibiotics if they are not necessary. In fact, in some cases, using antibiotics can actually trigger an allergy or cause more bacteria to develop. Luckily, not every case of nasal polyps becomes infected. Often, infections are the result of chronic inflammation of the sinuses or nasal passages. Additionally, an antihistamine may be necessary to treat allergies, but usually does nothing to reduce or eliminate polyps.
- Natural Treatment
There is another alternative to steroids, antibiotics and surgery. SinusWars LLC has developed and researched many remedies and medicines over the years and has formulated three complex products that treat nasal polyps.
The first product every nasal polyp suffer should use is SinusWars13. SinusWars13 helps to treat current nasal polyps by shrinking and starving the diseased tissue until it eventually disappears or falls out completely.
An additional product that can be used by anyone with nasal polyps is SinusWars7. SinusWars7 helps to reduce swelling and inflammation (the primary cause of nasal polyps), expel thick-blocked-infected mucus and relieve pressure and pain associated with nasal polyps.

Surgery

In some cases, a doctor may recommend surgical options when other approaches have not been successful.
- Polypectomy
A polypectomy involves removing small polyps completely from the nasal area. It is an outpatient surgery and is typically completed in less than an hour. A suction device called a microdebrider cuts and removes diseased tissue from the area. Recovery time is minimal and involves using a nasal spray along with occasional nasal irrigation to keep the area clean and free from infection.
- Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
A bit more advanced, endoscopic sinus surgery involves not only the removal of polyps, but also corrective measures for the sinuses. An endoscope is used to guide a surgeon as he enters the sinus cavity, making it possible to see with a tiny camera and magnifying lens. In some cases, after removing the polyps, a surgeon may enlarge the passageways that stretch between nasal cavities and sinuses to avoid further issues. Again, as with a polypectomy, this is typically an outpatient surgery. Recovery is minimal although patients can expect to be a little sore.
Unfortunately, one of the worst characteristics of nasal polyps is the fact that they are recurring. Even after surgery, there is a good chance that they will return. After treatment, doctors recommend patients use a corticosteroid spray consistently to reduce the likelihood that polyps will return. The best approach is a comprehensive one aimed at reducing inflammation from all possible sources. Manage sinus infections and decrease polyp size by using corticosteroid treatments.
